The impact of American politics reverberates well beyond the borders of our country. More than ever before, citizens of all ages have reason to assert their opinion in response to issues of both domestic and international import. American troops continue to attempt to bring peace to a war-torn Iraq. Radical Islamic terrorist organizations are an omnipresent threat to national security. Between a fragile Afghan state, a continuing territorial clash between Israelis and Palestinians, and the potential for a nuclear Iran, the Middle East is arguably the most volatile and conflict-prone region in the world. For good reason, the terms “global warming” and “gun control” remain at the forefront of the American consciousness. Genocide continues in the Sudan; a sizeable portion of the American public does not have health insurance; and the burgeoning budget deficit grows with seemingly no end in sight. And still, these are only a few of the most pressing issues left to the intellect and ambition of Generation Y.
